New Line Taps Dan Trachtenberg and Don Scardino to Helm New Pics

By Liza Foreman

New Line Cinema has tapped director Don Scardino (pictured) to direct its remake of the caper classic “Going in Style” and Dan Trachtenberg to helm the cult classic “Y: The Last Man."

"Y: The Last Man" is the saga of Yorick Brown,  the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent and a brilliant young geneticist, Yorick sets out in search of his lost love and the answer to why he's the last man on earth.

The story is based on a dystopian sci-fi comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia are writing “Y.” The producers are Chris Bender, Jake Weiner, JC Spink and David Goyer.

“Going In Style” is the remake of the 1979 caper film which starred George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg, as  three bored geriatrics  who decide to rob a bank. The script is being written by Ted Melfi.

Donald De Line is producing the remake. Tony Bill, the producer on the original, will executive produce "Going in Style."
